Possible Impacts on Financial Aid

How will the S-U grading affect my financial aid?

The S-U grading will allow the courses to count toward your hours earned for Florida Bright Futures and Federal Aid renewal; however, they do not count towards your GPA.  Further questions are best answered on a case-by-case basis, and, if you are not sure, please submit a case to sfa-help-@mail.ufl.edu with specific questions.  Student Financial Affairs staff will then reach out to you to help.

If I drop a course, am I responsible for repaying Bright Futures? What about the Benacquisto Scholarship program?

Students who drop a course will have to repay Bright Futures and potentially might not meet renewal criteria for their scholarship if they fall below a certain number of credit hours for the academic year. Be sure to check the full requirements regarding Bright Futures here (“Florida Bright Future Repayment Policy,” https://www.sfa.ufl.edu/bf-renewal/).

The Benacquisto Scholarship Program requires students to earn credit for all hours enrolled after the drop/add period each term.  Students who drop a course will not meet the renewal criteria for the subsequent academic year.  Additional information is available at https://www.floridastudentfinancialaidsg.org/PDF/factsheets/FIS.pdf.

If I earn a U in a course, would that affect my Bright Futures?

A U is considering “failing” and thus would not count toward your hours earned for Bright Futures.

I am a Veteran with GI Bill funding. If I switch to S-U grading, will my GI Bill payments be affected?

If you choose S-U grading for any or all of your courses, your GI Bill payments will not be affected.  You can read more about impacts on your payments as a result of the recent shift to online classes in reaction to COVID-19 here:  https://www.military.com/daily-news/2020/03/10/will-you-lose-your-gi-bill-benefits-if-coronavirus-closes-your-school.html
