Starting in Summer B 2018, all first-time-in-college (FTIC) students entering all Florida College System (FCS) and State University System (SUS) institutions must demonstrate competency in civic literacy by the time they graduate per Florida Statute 1007.25 and Florida Board of Governors Regulation 8.006. UF students can meet this State requirement in a number of ways:
Fulfilling this civic literacy requirement will be essential for graduation from the University of Florida, and, because of increased attention needed for upper division studies, students are strongly encouraged to complete the requirement before the end of their second year. The transcript of every student who has met this requirement will include a notation that indicates the requirement has been met.
*Note: The state does not recognize any other accelerated credits for this requirement. Additionally, dual enrollment courses taken prior to Fall 2018 do not satisfy the civic literacy requirement as those courses did not include the competencies required by statute until Fall 2018.
